United Way of Bristol TN/VA, Inc

United Way of Bristol TN/VA, Inc believes that the best way to help the most people is to focus on the underlying causes of the most serious problems. It takes the whole community-working together - to create results and improve the lives of more people than any of us could by working alone. So we bring together people from all across the community - people from local businesses, nonprofits, faith groups, government and concerned citizens - to tackle issues that our community has said matter most:

It's all part of United Way's commitment to improving lives and the life of our entire community. And thanks to the generous support of thousands of people in our community, we are "Building Hope" and changing lives every day.

Message from the President - Steve Johnson, 2006 President, Board of Directors

A look back on 2006 shows another successful year for United Way of Bristol and our community. The partnership of hundreds of dedicated volunteers, our United Way staff and thousands of generous donors created the formula for success. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as your 2006 President of the United Way of Bristol Board of Directors. It has truly been an exciting and enjoyable year working with you as we continue to help those in need in our community have a brighter future.

Because of your efforts, the United Way of Bristol made history once again by raising the largest total dollars ever in this year’s campaign. The goal of $1,300,000 was certainly a challenge; however, Dr. Greg Jordan, this year’s Campaign Chairman and our Board of Directors knew that we had to raise more money in order to help meet the growing needs in our community. With your help and generosity we exceeded that goal and now our member agencies have even more resources to help improve the lives of those they serve – and thereby improving the quality of life in Bristol. For the first time ever, allocations to our member agencies for 2007 will exceed $1,000,000. That is incredible!

The members of our Executive Committee and Board of Directors are to be commended. Through their dedication and hard work to the mission of our United Way, they have facilitated the successes of today and ensured the promise of an even brighter tomorrow for thousands of people in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to our member agencies. Each day, the men and women of these organizations provide a helping hand and a caring heart to those who need it the most. They are the lifeline for so many, and I thank you for your dedication and commitment to those in need in our community.

Thank you to all our generous donors and volunteers. No other charitable effort offers the opportunity to help so many of our community’s critical problems. Your gift of time, energy and money touches the lives of many and everyone benefits because programs supported by the United Way help to make our community a better place to live, work and play.

To our United Way of Bristol staff, Lisa Cofer, Debbie Helton and Lorie Bradley, thank you for your dedication and love for our community. Your enthusiasm for helping others is tremendous and I thank you for making my term as President a year to remember.

As we move forward into 2007, I am confident our new President, Roger Leonard and Campaign Chairman, Bill Prince will lead us to even greater successes and achievements. As the needs in our community grow, the United Way of Bristol will be there to meet those needs, always in a kind, caring and compassionate manner.
