Actor Dennis Farina was charged with a felony Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage.
When the weapon was discovered at a security checkpoint, the 64-year-old actor said he had forgotten the .22-caliber handgun was in his luggage, police said.
Farina was booked for investigation of carrying a concealed weapon, said Sgt. Dennis Beacham. Bail was set at $25,000 before police discovered the weapon was not registered. Charges were then upgraded to a felony and bail was increased to $35,000.
Farina was released after...
The United States has launched its first relief airlift to Myanmar for last week\'s cyclone victims.
A military C-130 cargo plane packed with supplies left a Thai air force base Monday for Myanmar\'s biggest city, Yangon. Two more air shipments are scheduled to land Tuesday.
Allowing the U.S. flight is a huge concession by Myanmar\'s military government, which sees Washington as its enemy. The junta has also generally refused to allow international relief experts and slowed down aid delivery by the U.N. with red-tape.
Operation spokesman Lt. Col. Douglas Powell said the...
So much for small ball.
Craig Monroe went 2-for-4 with two of light-hitting Minnesota\'s three home runs and four RBIs, and the Twins hung on for a 9-8 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.
Joe Nathan gave up two runs in the ninth, but won a showdown with pinch-hitter Manny Ramirez by getting him to ground out to shortstop with the tying run on second base to pick up his 12th save in as many chances.
Monroe had his third career multihomer game and Adam Everett also went deep during an atypically brutal start for Tim Wakefield (3-2) in the Metrodome. Nick...
Hillary Rodham Clinton began her presidential quest armed with talent, tenacity, fame, money, connections and a team that knew how to win. Many people believed her victory in the Democratic nomination was a sure thing. Her ultimate failing may have been in believing it, too.
Clinton had one big problem out of the gate: 40 percent or more of Americans said they\'d never vote for her. She was too polarizing. It\'s love her or hate her.
Clinton powered through that hurdle in state after state, showing grit that earned her the valuable political currency of being merely...
Hiroki Kuroda took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Los Angeles Dodgers before the Houston Astros broke out for seven hits and six runs in the eighth inning to pull out an 8-5 victory Sunday.
Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee and Hunter Pence had RBI singles against reliever Jonathan Broxton (1-1), and Brad Ausmus added a two-run single against the right-hander as the Astros won for the eighth time in nine games. Houston also completed its first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium since September 25-27, 1992.
Michael Bourn capped the rally with a sacrifice fly, giving...

Stunned survivors picked through the little that was left of their communities Sunday after tornadoes tore across the Plains and South, killing at least 22 people in three states and leaving behind a trail of destruction and stories of loss.
At least 15 people died in southwestern Missouri. In the fading mining town of Picher, Okla., at least six people were killed, and at least one person died in storms in Georgia.

Jenna Bush picked \"You Are So Beautiful,\" the ballad made famous by Joe Cocker, for the father-daughter dance with President Bush at her wedding reception Saturday night in Texas, the band leader said.
Tyrone Smith of Nashville and his 10-piece party band, The Tyrone Smith Revue, were hired to play at the reception in Crawford.
The band was asked to do \"Lovin\' in My Baby\'s Eyes\" by Taj Mahal for the newlyweds\' first dance. Smith spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday about the music plans, on the condition that the reporter honor a request by the Bush family not to...
Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer in the third inning and the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox 6-3 Sunday to snap a five-game losing streak.
Jose Lopez and Ichiro Suzuki each went 3-for-4 for the Mariners, who finished with 13 hits. It was Seattle\'s most hits since it collected 10 in a 7-3 win over Texas last Monday. The Mariners went 2-5 on their seven-game homestand.
Seattle got to Gavin Floyd (3-2), who has been one of the toughest pitchers to hit so far this season, for five runs and nine hits over 3 2-3 innings.
Floyd entered with a major league-leading...

Barack Obama erased Hillary Rodham Clinton\'s once-imposing lead among superdelegates Saturday when he added more endorsements from the group of Democrats who will decide the party\'s nomination for president.
Obama added superdelegates from Utah, Ohio and Arizona, as well as two from the Virgin Islands who had previously backed Clinton. The additions enabled Obama to surpass Clinton\'s total for the first time in the campaign. He had picked up nine endorsements Friday.
The milestone is important because Clinton would need to win over the superdelegates by a wide margin to...
Tim Duncan had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets 100-80 on Sunday night to even the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2. Tony Parker added 21 points for the Spurs, who led nearly the entire game and are assured of a Game 6 back in San Antonio. Chris Paul scored 23 for the Hornets.
Game 5 is Tuesday in New Orleans.
Amber Parker watched on television as the storm near her home grew into a tornado threat. Then, when the roaring wind outside suddenly fell silent, she grabbed her two toddlers and rushed to get under the stairwell.
\"We just got inside the door frame when I was pushed inside ... then everything went,\" said Parker, tears welling in her eyes as she described the chaotic scene during a brief discussion with reporters near her demolished home in central North Carolina.
Neighbors helped the 36-year-old Parker and her two children _ a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old _ out of the...
Steve Holm entered the game as a defensive replacement at catcher, then delivered the biggest hit of the day.
Holm hit a go-ahead, two-run drive in the seventh inning for his first major league home run, and the San Francisco Giants held on for a 4-3 victory in the rubber game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.
Holm homered in his first at-bat on the first pitch he saw from J.C. Romero (3-1) after replacing Bengie Molina in the top of the seventh, sending the ball into the seats in left-center. Romero had allowed only one homer in his previous 61 appearances and...

President Bush spent months joking about being a father of the bride, but on Sunday he was downright wistful about giving his daughter Jenna away to her longtime bow.
\"Our little girl, Jenna, married a really good guy, Henry Hager,\" Bush said, standing next Mrs. Bush at an airport in Waco where he boarded Air Force One for his flight back to Washington. \"The wedding was spectacular. It\'s just _ it\'s all we could have hoped for.\"
Unlike other first family weddings that have been broadcast live, the Bushes didn\'t share their daughter\'s nuptials with the nation. The day...

Her presidential bid needs a miracle, so Hillary Rodham Clinton prayed for one Sunday in church.
Arriving amid thunderstorms, Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, took seats in the second row of First United Methodist Church and listened to a sermon about Mother\'s Day.
\"Give us eyes to see the miracles around us,\" Dr. Paul Russell said, leading the worshippers in prayer. Hillary Clinton read along with the congregation.
Mother\'s Day was Clinton\'s theme Sunday as she sought to remind Democrats of her strong support among women while campaigning for the big win in West...
